EHE 310 - Parent Letter
In my EHE 310 class, one of my assignments required me to write a letter to the parent/guardians addressing a sensitive topic in the classroom. I thought this assignment would be important to include in my portfolio because I believe it is important know the proper language and understanding when writing a letter to home. Below I have shared my letter that I have created.
Background about the letter:
Background about the letter:
- Addressing USC 1.5 Explore the association between a healthy sense of "self" and one's positive connection with others and the environment.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Over the next few weeks your child will be exploring and learning the importance of ‘identity’. This topic is important to begin learning at this grade level because it not only allows children to discover themselves, but it also creates an understanding of equality, fairness and respect to others identities. In today’s society, children are strongly influenced by what they see in the media, which can create a negative impact on their personal growth and development. The goal for this health unit is to help students gain a positive deeper connection towards themselves, others and their community. These are the main topics that we will be discussing:
Although I am very excited to begin this new health unit. I have a few concerns and questions that I need to address. With this unit being heavily based on personal identity, we will be talking about topics regarding culture, beliefs, sexual orientation, physical characteristics and family structures. If you as the parent/guardian have any issues or concerns about any of these topics that I should know about please contact me ASAP. I would be more than happy to adapt my lessons to make sure all students feel comfortable and safe.
As we begin this unit, I will be encouraging the students to begin asking questions at home around certain concepts regarding topics about identities. For the students to have a full understanding of who they are, I ask for a small amount of parent involvement at home. So be prepared to participate in small, quick activities that you will do with your child on Seesaw or Flipgrid. With that being said, make sure you’re checking your child's agenda and Seesaw to see all the fun activities that we will be doing in and around the classroom.
I look forward to getting this unit rolling!
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Haylee Carlson

- What makes me unique? In this section students will discover what mental, physical, spiritual and emotional characteristics that form their identities.
- What makes my classmates and I unique? Once students have an understanding of who they are, they will begin to develop connections with their classmates about similarities and differences they have with their individual characteristics.
- What makes our classroom and community unique? As a class we will begin to explore how our identities are influenced within the community and what factors that we can do to be an engaged citizen.
