With a snap of my fingers the semester is over! I cannot believe how fast this semester has flown by. Over the past 12 weeks I learned the basics of crocheting. Although I have learned so much I feel like my crocheting journey has just begun. Since January, my ultimate goal with crocheting was to have the basic skills on how to do designs and various stitches. With it being a struggle at times, I believe that I was able to obtain that goal. One of the big things that I have learned from this project is that anything is possible with the internet. If I was not able to use the internet to learn crocheting I think that I would struggle a lot. I am a very visual learner, so being able to watch videos was amazing. Another thing is that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Just anything, things take time to learn and with this situation being self taught it can be a power struggle sometimes. It is important to continue to practice and to have a positive growth mindset when doing this.
During my journey, there were definitely some pros and cons about my learning project. Some of the things that I really enjoyed was that I could do this hobby in the evenings and weekends. It was very much a stress reliever and took my mind off of things that I was stressing about. On the other hand, some things that I did not like were learning something new. The reason why I did not like this was because lots of the times when I was learning a new stitch I would get frustrated because there were many times that the videos were only instructed with using the right hand. This was a problem for me because I am left handed. I struggled with figuring things out and it took more time trying how to hold and make the stitches. Lastly, the other thing that I did not like was rushing through stitches. What I mean is that each week I would try something new. All though this was part of the learning project goal, I felt that there were times that I did not master a stitch and then it was time to move on because of the time frame. Moving forward and after this class I want to revisit some of these stitches so I ensure that I master them and have a good idea. Moving forward past this class, I want to continue my crocheting journey. During this semester I developed an appreciation and drive to continue wanting to improve my crocheting abilities. Before starting this, I was very into Rainbow looms as a kid so I knew this was just like the adult version of that. With that being said, I am glad I found a new little hobby and I am excited to see what crocheting can provide for me. To wrap up my project I have created a nice pink scarf. Although it is spring, I will probably have to save my new scarf until next winter. For my final project I really enjoyed making this as I feel really accomplished making a product of something. With this taking time, I am grateful that I took the time and accomplished what I started.

Ding ding and the winner is… Crochet Scarf. The reason why I picked this was because it felt suitable for me and my abilities right now. If I was a little more experienced and felt a little more comfortable I would love to do the Crochet Cat. As I continue practicing even after this class I hope that one day that I can complete doing these harder projects.
With that being said, for this week I have started working on my Crochet Scarf. The materials that I will be using to complete this project is pink acrylic yarn and a 5mm hook. These materials are things that I already have. I am hoping that I don’t run out of yarn so fingers crossed. The stitches that I will be focusing on is a single stitch. As the week progresses I will be bust stitching my scarf… stay tuned for the finished project. As we come close to the end of the semester I have started to think about what I can do for my final project. With me making some improvements thus far, I certainly do not feel ready to tackle a project that is very complicated. Ideally, I want to continue to work on stitching and begin working on my final project. Take a look at the links below to see what ideas that I want to make. Please feel free to make any suggestions or if you would like me to do one of these.

Personally I found this pattern way more enjoyable to learn as it was easy to get the hang of it. One thing that I did not like was the yarn I am using. From my other post I talked about how different types of yarn can be easier or harder to use. For me, I am currently using acrylic yarn. I want to try something different, however, I have not had the time to go to the store to get something different. Plus, I don’t want to waste the yarn I have already bought and wanted to use this stuff up. Overall, I liked this pattern and I am excited to learn the triple crochet next week! Below see my progress as I was learning this double crochet.
For this week's practice, I have continued learning the granny square stitch. At the beginning of learning this stitch last week, I was slightly frustrated at how tedious that it is. This week after practicing it I have finally got the trip on how to stitch this design. To build on this, this week I have focused on learning how to switch colors when making a design. The nice thing about this technique is that it allows you to properly identify which colors when needed. The video that I followed was How to Crochet a Granny Square with Multiple Colours In this video I was able to learn about to do this technique. Overall, I found this pretty easy to learn. From gaining the concept, I enjoyed making several different granny squares as I was watching TV one afternoon.
youtube.com/shorts/5B61kOBt9Jg?feature=share As many of us know TikTok is a huge platform that has gained popularity within the past few years. For me personally, I have had TikTok for a few years and it is one of my favourite social media platforms to go on. The reason why is that it is very educational and keeps me informed with news and latest gossip (lol). There have been many times that I have found many great resources and relatable teacher posts. However, although I have had TikTok for awhile, I have never posted my own video. With that being said, I created my first ever video ever tonight. My video is a video of me make a crochet Granny Square. While using this app to film I found it super user friendly. I have used iMovie in the past and it is very similar to this. This is a platform that could be really easy for beginners. |
